A model stands with her back to the camera, clutching a hot pink purse behind her with both hands. Her glove matches her bag, her yellow nails match her arm bands, and the colors all rest against a saturated teal backdrop. These bright and playful colors create a tension with the model’s goggles, black and industrial, recalling a steam-engine operator’s apparel as he barrels ahead across land. In his signature “poppy lighting,” Arthur Belebeau captured the dynamism of the figure and the objects she is wearing, leaving us wanting to know more about where she has been and where she is headed.
