SHADOW PLAY

August 03 - August 15, 2021

All the variety, all the charm, all the beauty of life is made up of light and shadow.
— LEO TOLSTOY

The relationship between light and dark has always captured the human imagination; the interplay between what one can see and what one cannot is thought provoking, thrilling, and provocative. The shadow embodies both the known an unknown, as it is both deeply tied to reality yet simultaneously transcends our grasp. Light and shadow are always an integral part of the photographic process, but some artists allow shadow to breath its own life into their images. This curation explores the relationship between light and shadow, and the ability of artists such as Greg Kadel, Robert Farber, Arthur Belebeau, and Chris von Wangenheim to heighten the drama of an image through a skillful yet whimsical ability to play with darkness.
