MAKEUP CLOSEUPS

March 08 - March 21, 2021

Makeup has the power to make the skin a canvas, transforming its wearer. While makeup is usually not a photographer’s focus, it can be the subject of a photograph in and of itself. This curation looks at the relationship between makeup and photography when the beauty shot is the subject, celebrating the razor sharp eye for detail, meticulous sensibility and highly sophisticated technical skills of the artists featured in the exhibition:

The acclaimed beauty photographer Kenneth Willardt whose images populate many pages of Harpers Bazaar, Cleo Sullivan who uses makeup to play and create a story, Arthur Belebeau whose surreal intensity is realized through Bellebeau’s signature “poppy lighting" mixing hard lights with softer, more flattering lights.
