Marie knows, like I do, the sometimes Herculean effort that goes into creating a memorable fashion photograph; it often includes travel to exotic locales for the right backdrop or complicated custom-built sets, the creative vision of the stylist and photographer (and overseeing company funding it all), the hair, the makeup, the clothes, and the model or subject that makes the image jump off the page. But after spending 15 years at L’Oreal in Paris and NYC and 5 at Coach, Marie felt like much of this effort was a waste, because the end result often showed up for one month in a magazine, and then was relegated to archives. Marie’s solution? Her year-old online gallery, The Selects Gallery, which features the work of fashion and beauty photographers by offering large scale prints mean to grace any wall you see fit. Starting this Thursday she is showing some of her work, including images by 70s photographer Chris Von Wagenheim that haven’t been shown in 40 years, at the Pier 94 Art Show in NYC.

For their first exhibition, The Selects Gallery presents its newly curated collection “Story of Escape” featuring exclusive large format Fashion photography at Market Art+Design in Bridgehampton.
Opened in February 2018, The Selects Gallery is the premier online destination for large scale, museum quality, fine art Fashion photography in limited edition. The gallery scouts and brings back a curated selection of the most striking images from the archives of some of the most talented international photographers.
For its first appearance at an art show with Market Art+Design, The Selects Gallery will present a collection of photographs under the title “Story of Escape”.
Marie Audier D’Alessandris, founder of The Selects Gallery to explain: “Fashion photographers offer a surreal vision of reality; beautified almost to an extreme, and I wanted to bring that vision to the theme of escape, so dear to everyone in the Hamptons.”
The selection will include editorial and personal work from renowned photographers who all have been previously published in top international publications yet will be featured for the first time in an art fair in the US. Danish Kenneth Willardt, Canadian Richard Phibbs or Dutch Paul Bellaart are some of the featured artists.
The Selects Gallery will be the first Art Gallery to introduce social currency as a way to purchase art related items: as they snap photos or create a story with the hashtag #theselectsgallery on Facebook or Instagram, Market Art + Design attendees will be awarded with gallery’s art related gift.
